KIDSART ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

KidsArt offers an on-site school drawing enrichment program to public and private schools. Trained KidsArt teachers travel to each school site to teach pre-school, elementary and junior high school age students. KidsArt supplies all information and registration materials to parents, takes care of class lists, and all administration for the classes.

The School Drawing Enrichment program is available to any schools that are interested in implementing it. Classes can be taught during the school day or after regular school hours, with hours being flexible according to teacher availability.

What the Program Teaches
Students learn a realistic drawing program. Curriculum is varied to include teaching still-life, the figure, landscape, portraiture, cartooning, animation, clay sculpture, and more. This high quality fine art program offers art instruction that goes far beyond cut and paste, and arts & crafts. It teaches a student how to "see" in a new way, and offers basic understanding of how to draw.

Why this Program is Important
Realistic drawing skills help strengthen confidence, which in turn lessens frustration when students are asked to draw pictures for school reports that they have no training to accomplish. KidsArt drawing instruction helps students avoid continual dissatisfaction with their artistic abilities, so that they will not eventually give up pursuing art as a viable interest. Drawing is a learned subject, just like any other. The misconception that one ought to be able to just know how to draw (or not), leads to teachers giving drawing assignments without offering any artistic training. It is no different from asking students to do complicated math problems before you have taught them how to add and subtract.

The Curriculum Guide
Media
Crayon, oil pastels, watercolor pencil, marker, graphite, colored pencils, and watercolor crayons are some of the mediums taught.

Cartoon Characters

Emphasis: Learning representational spacial relations while developing perception and small motor skills. For continuing students a greater emphasis will be placed on mastery and independence towards applied learning.

Animals
Students will learn to draw animals and their habitats. Emphasis: Representational spacial relations with more intricate subject matter are investigated.

Landscapes
Students will learn how to draw scenes and images. Emphasis: The creation of 3-dimensional depth taught by overlapping, and the concept of diminishing.

Spring Fling
Students will learn to draw bold patterns of spring scenes including landscapes and animals. Emphasis: Composition and design of a two-dimensional surface will be taught.

*This core curriculum is supplemented with a variety of subject matter, dependent upon the specific ages, skill, and interests of the students.

Sophia, Age 4

The KidsArt approach to drawing is based on the fact that any form can be broken down into simple shapes. Once the student's eye is trained to understand their size and placement, and the student's hand is trained to accurately represent what the eye has seen, that person can draw realistically.
